RebelRAS (Remote Access Server) is a plug-in for the NetWinder OfficeServer. It provides remote users with dial-up access to the NetWinder OfficeServer. RebelRAS is intended to provide a contingency method of accessing NetWinder if the external ethernet connection becomes unavailable (for example, service interruptions due to weather conditions). You can also use RebelRAS to give remote users a dedicated dial-up connection.
RebelRAS enables users to access NetWinder OfficeServer from a remote location. As shown in the following diagram, a user dials up from a remote computer to the NetWinder. Access is provided via a modem connected to the NetWinder. This modem can be connected through a serial port (Port E) or through the USB port (Port D). Currently only one modem of each type can be used at the same time allowing at most two simultaneous user dial ups.

Note: LAN users behind NetWinder cannot dial out while the modem is being used by RebelRAS.
Note: Although RebelRAS can be used with a PPPoE connection and 2 inbound phone lines (1 serial and 1 USB), this feature has not undergone extensive testing and should be used at user's own risk.
As the administrator, you specify the users who can dial up to NetWinder. Typically, you should give only a few users, including yourself (as the administrator) permission to dial up to NetWinder because RebelRAS is intended for use as a contingency method of accessing the network.
For each dial-up user, you specify the type of connection between the remote location (that is, the user's computer) and NetWinder. You can specify one or both of the two connection types that are available:
After installing the RebelRAS plug-in, the administrator can configure one or more RebelRAS connections. To configure a RebelRAS connection:
