Overview

LogFile Reporter is a plug-in for the NetWinder OfficeServer. This plug-in allows the administrator to view log files while working in a web browser with NetWinder OfficeServer. Without this plug-in, you can view log files using telnet. However, LogFile Reporter provides a more convenient method of viewing the log files.

What Information is Available?

LogFile Reporter shows the NetWinder OfficeServer log files that are maintained by the syslog service and stored in the "/var/log/" directory. For example, NetWinder OfficeServer's ftp server logs information about user connections in "/var/log/messages". Using LogFile Reporter, you can access this information by viewing the contents of the General System log and in the Security log. LogFile Reporter also shows log files for third-party software applications that are maintained by the syslog service and stored in the "/var/log/" directory. For information about the common log files that are listed in LogFile Reporter, see Viewing the List of Log Files.

LogFile Reporter ignores files in the "/var/log/" directory that aren't maintained by the syslog service. For this reason, log files for NetWinder OfficeServer's web server don't appear in LogFile Reporter. Similarly, not all log files for NetWinder OfficeServer's ftp server appear in LogFile Reporter. Specifically, information about which files were transferred using the ftp server doesn't appear.
